2 – The Sweetest Guy

Ginger was waiting for her in a silver sports BMW when Dana arrived. She was texting and giggling.

“What so funny, Ginger? You seem pretty delighted,” Dana teased.

“Well, I've got to kill time while I wait for Miss Princess,” she quickly replied while still reading the text. Her flushed face obviously showed that she was texting with a boy.

“How is Peter?” as if she knew that Ginger was chatting with her crush, Peter Rowson, a cocky, and very handsome jock. Ginger had been ranting on and on about this guy and finally started dating him for three months now. They hadn't agreed on being a couple yet, but practically everyone in the university knew they were the most envious item.

“He asked me out to Charlie's,” she shouted proudly. “I think he's going to do it, no one would ever ask his girlfriend to Charlie's dinner if nothing romantic is going to happen,”

She was right. Charlie's is a very elegant and romantic restaurant. The food was nicely prepared by a French chef and all the ingredients were of great quality. Dana knew this restaurant so well because she waited there once and she was dating a German sous chef. She often made fun of him how a German would work in a French restaurant.

“That's great! Congrats, girl,” she hugged her friend.

“Dana, let's change the topic real quick, You know I could have lent you the money for your ticket, and I would have loved to help you. You're my BFF, I don't want to see you miss your dream,”

“Thank you, Ginger. I really can't do that. I've taken too much from you,” she gratefully thanked her friend.

“OK, I'm always here in case you need me. You're probably the only true friend I ever had,” Ginger meant every word she said.

Dana often thought of how strange the two became best friends. They were so different. Ginger was a light-hearted bubbly girl from a very wealthy family in the upper east side who donated so much money to the university they had a library with their family name engraved at the front door. Ginger often went out for a dance or drink after class, she never succeeded taking Dana with her. She traveled around the world and often told Dana's story, lighting the fire in her heart to start travelling herself. Dana was an ambitious girl from a middle class in Minnesota. She was conservative, disciplined and rather quiet compared to Ginger. They first met at the student center where Dana helped Ginger copy important document for university admission. From then on, the outgoing Ginger introduced herself and shared the luxurious apartment with her while Dana sometimes helped with homework and shores.

They arrived the cafe. Dana was still in her thought of how grateful she was to have Ginger as her best friend. She would need to walk here if it wasn't Ginger driving her.

“Have fun, girl. I'll have fun myself too,” Ginger gave her cheek a kiss before she shushed Dana out her car.
